Clear Pathways Coaching Newsletter 1/9/08

Dear Friends: Welcome to our monthly newsletter. We offer
some information, some inspiration and some features to
keep you smiling.

Nothing in the universe exists in isolation. Everything is
relational or dependent on something else to function
properly. It is the same for people. We do our best, feel
our best when working with or relating harmoniously to
others. We need to know that we can make a difference, a
contribution; that what we do is important to ourselves
because it is important to someone else. More often it is
the small gesture such as a warm smile, a pleasant greeting
that can create a positive ripple effect. With this small,
heart-felt gesture, a contribution is made.

Warmly, Lillian

QUOTE OF THE MONTH: Shared joy is a double joy; shared
sorrow is half a sorrow. - Swedish Proverb

CONSIDER THIS:

While we try to decrease global warming of the planet, what
about trying to increase global warming of the heart?
There is a real need today for connectedness, for having
someone to listen with caring and empathy; to be able to
engage in simple, honest conversation that allows us to
speak, to be heard and to listen well. Is there someone
you can speak with and know you will be heard? Do you
listen empathically to a friend or family member in need?

All I Ever Really Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten

by Robert Fulgham

Most of what I really need to know about how to live, and
what to do, and how to be, I learned in Kindergarten.
Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain,
but there in the sandbox at nursery school.

These are the things I learned: Share everything. Play
fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found
them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that
aren't yours. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and
cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life. Learn
some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance
and play and work some every day.

Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the world,
watch for traffic, hold hands, and stick together. Be
aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the plastic
cup. The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody
really knows how or why, but we are all like that.

Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little
seed in the plastic cup ~ they all die. So do we.

And then remember the book about Dick and Jane and the
first word you learned, the biggest word of all: LOOK.
Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The
Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation, ecology and
politics and sane living.

Think of what a better world it would be if we all ~the
whole world had cookies and milk about 3 o'clock every
afternoon and then lay down with our blankets for a nap.
Or if we had a basic policy in our nation and other nations
to always put things back where we found them and clean up
our own messes. And it is still true, no matter how old
you are, when you go out into the world, it is best to hold
hands and stick together.

GOOD HUMOR/GOOD HEALTH:

A wise school teacher sends this note to all parents on the
first day of school: "If you promise not to believe
everything your child says happens at school, I'll promise
not to believe everything he says happens at home.

We were doing a science lesson on how plants grow. The
children all got a chance to plant their own seeds. As
the teacher I planted a few extra seeds for the children
whose plants do not sprout. After a few weeks of watching
them I secretly exchanged a few. The next day one of my
students said "Look teacher, it's a miracle, my plant is
growing". I said "Yes, seeds sprouting is very exciting".
He said," No teacher, that's not the miracle, I ATE the
SEED and it is growing anyway!"
Debbie Capuano

Eleven year old's environmental studies essay on the effect
of oil pollution: 'When my mum opened a tin of sardines
last night it was full of oil and all the sardines were
dead.'

Remember: He who laughs, lasts.
