QUOTE
“We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by
room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be
patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to
walk through the rooms of our lives...not looking for
flaws, but for potential.”
~Ellen Goodman

-Listen to music
~Aulus Cornelius Celsus, from his famous treatise De
medicina, a major source of knowledge of early medicine
written about 30 A.D.

ARTICLE

It’s no secret that expressions of gratitude promote health
and healing for both ourselves and others. During the
season of giving, I encourage you to open your heart to
those less fortunate, your loved ones, and anyone (or
anything) that has enhanced your life in 2006 and offer a
token of thanks. This could be in the form of a note, a
present, a donation, or some other meaningful expression of
appreciation. Then watch how your acts of kindness create
joy and blessings during this holiday season.

Gratitude Opens the Heart

Gratitude enhances health on many levels. In my newly
released Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom I wrote, “Thinking
with your heart takes practice, but if you faithfully learn
to start thinking with your heart and pay attention to
areas of your life that bring you joy and fulfillment, over
time you will evoke biochemical changes in your body that
will recharge your batteries. In addition to enhancing your
energy levels and reducing stress, recognizing and
appreciating life’s many blessings is one of the most
powerful ways I know of to enhance the immune system,
balance your hormones, and promote heart health.

Get a piece of paper and list your blessings. Pay special
attention to the people who enhance your life on all
levels. (For example, the checkout person at your favorite
grocery store, the FedEx driver, or a sunny, optimistic
coworker.) This exercise can literally
change your life. The more you notice the people and things
you are grateful for, the more of them you’ll attract. And
thanking those who bestow these blessings enriches your
life in ways you never thought possible. And also uplifts
them.”
~Dr. Christiane Northrup, M.D.

GOOD HUMOR/GOOD HEALTH
“Some of the secret joys of living are not found by rushing
from point A to point B but by inventing imaginary letters
along the way”. ~Douglas Pagels

Taking some time for nothing can allow the simple pleasures
in life to fill that space. Enjoying those simple
pleasures leads to finding fun and having a more positive
outlook. Laughter, fun, positivity are all de-stressers
without side effects.
